Sarah Ornellas, a first-year year graduate student in the Conformable Decoders research group, is a new recipient of the Cadence Diversity in Technology Scholarship—Latinx Students in Technology Program. The award is given by Cadence Design Systems as part of their mission to support a bright and diverse generation of future innovators in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The awardees were selected based on leadership skills, recognition of accomplishments, endorsement from professors, and drive to shape the world of technology.

Sarah’s research endeavors involve the development of new ultrasound technology that can enable the treatment of diseases in the deep brain. She’s particularly interested in creating medical hardware that is inexpensive and can be used for chronic treatment and/or continuous sensing of biometric data. The Cadence Diversity in Technology Scholarship will support Sarah in her graduate studies and help her expand her contributions to a innovative and inclusive environment in the sciences.
